Hi all,i've a 16 weeks old liver and white springer spanial called jerry my very first springer spanial and i,m looking for some information on house training him. every time i take hime out for a walk or put him in the garden he come's straight in and doe's his buisness on the kitchen floor.ive tried the newspaper by the back door as i read in a breeders book i got when we purchased jerry from the breeders but all he doe's is rip it to shreeds and leaves a big mess (bless him) and also if we leave him in the kitchen with the door open he will go out then come in and mess on the floor. we would appreciate any feedback on how to get him out of this habit and would like to thank you for taking the time to read this. Also we will be putting him out to stud so if anyone can advise us or could be interested in breeding then please get back to me. thank you.

Hi Sandi, today we're celebrating Chili's (Elvira x Frasier) 3rd birthday - where does the time go? She got the usual special treats and playtime in the dog park with her buddies, but her biggest present came a couple of months ago - when Rocket - now officially "Saga's Blue Moon" came to live with us. They've bonded well and play together all the time. We've been taking pictures of course, will send you some soon! - Sandy Lear

Our Welshie is now 11 years old. She has been an absolute joy in our lives. I would like to say to people who may be considering a Welsh Springer Spaniel that you should be prepared for LOTS of activity when they are young. Our girl was NOT a quiet, passive puppy. She has been wonderful with children, although as she ages she is getting a bit snappy. Overall, I highly reccommend this breed! They are very loving and loyal and the nickname "Velcro Dog" is very appropriate!

Beautiful pics of the pups. We just had a small litter and have 4 adult welshie's. I've had other dogs in the past but since I have had my first welsh, no other breed will do.

Greetings from Chili (IABCA Int'l Ch Saga's Come Fly With Me) and her humans in Florida. We'll be at the nationals in Harrisburg next month - hope to see you there. Chili is now a beautiful 2-year old and a joy to work with. She's taken over as "demo dog" from Caity in my obedience classes - I love her demeanor with other dogs - she helps shy dogs learn to relax and become more social, often better than the humans can do! We're going to start working towards competitive type obedience in another couple of months. Please note my new e-mail address below - and look for us in PA next month. Chili will be the beautiful mover with the cloddish handler at the other end of the lead!

Hello, I've been studing for a new dog for a few months now. I Barried my little girl Tanya, March of 03. She was a kelpy/border mix. I'd like to find another smart, loyal and loving dog. Welshies look very promising. The fact they can handle the cold and some heat in the summer is inportant. I live in the eastern sierras of Northern California where winters are around 30 degrees. Sometimes my dog will have to stay outside durning the day, on those ocations that I can't bring her to work. Anyways Thank You for your input and maybe I'll be talking with you soon.

For those of you considering a Saga Welshie, let us tell you that our Tommy, (Saga's Gentle Knight) has the kindest soul of any dog we have ever been around. He can be a little arrogant at times---sniffing and scratching before coming when called, but he comes. We have read that Welshies sometimes are shy with people who are not family, well; Tommy has not met anyone who he does not consider family. If you want a special dog, go for a Saga Welshie. I loved your website and found it extremely educational. Many of my questions have been answered because of it. My confidence in the Welshie as the possible newest member of the family is greatly enhanced. I'm sure much of this info could have been had through great diligence and effort, but thanks to your dedication and knowledge it's on your website. I have four children whose ages range from 6 to 13 and all of them are excited at the prospect of a beautiful Welshie. I hope to contact you in the not-to-distant future about a puppy.

I would love to know when puppies are available later this year. I have a 16 month old b/w English Springer Spaniel which I received from a hunter. It's a pedigree - but the field type, with lots of white, a tail, and shorter ears. He's beautiful.

This is a wonderful website! We have two Welshies. One is from Virginia and the other from Finland. Our Welshies are wonderful pets. They run or cross-country ski with me almost every day. Our son, who is one and a half years old, absolutely adores the dogs, and the dogs likewise, adore our baby. They act like his nannies.

Greetings from Chili (Frasier x Elvira) and the rest of the family in St. Pete, FL. We're also having fun watching another litter on your puppy-cam and remembering watching Chili before we came out to bring her home. I'm guessing that the current mom might be Salsa? (At least the glimpses I've seen look like her!) Chili is doing very well and is tons of fun - and very, very smart. She's got many friends of both the canine and human variety down at the training club, and even occasionally helps out as the "demo-dog" in my basic obedience class. We may be out in your area in the fall (sans dogs, unfortunately) - we'll give you a call if we are. Take care, hope this finds all of the Ilmanens well.

Your website was very informative (really like the grooming tips)and easy to navigate. I've been researching dog breeds for more than a year, and it sounds like a Welshie might be just the one for us (two active boys, 9 and 8, who love to play with dogs). They are beautiful and seem to be good family companions. Now, who can I talk to to get additional information?

We have owned several breeds of dogs in the 40 years we have been married. We started with a liver spotted Dalmatian. Next came several Eng. Cocker Spaniels and finally 13 years ago we acquired our first Eng. Springer Spaniel, A lovely Black and white Bitch.2 1/2 yrs later, we added a second B/W bitch. They were the joys of our lives and went almost everywhere with us. They always created a an interest wherever we went. I kept them clipped and clean and they were lovely dogs. Both had their Canadian Championships. Unfortunately we lost both girls within three months last year. I'm happy to say that we now have an 8 mo old bundle of activity, our third B/W Eng. Springer. We are contemplating adding a friend for Piper and are considering the Welsh Spinger. I enjoyed your page and all the information you provided. It's a great site!Do you know of any Welsh Breeders closer to British Columbia?Denise Columbia?

I have been reading and researching different breeds and I am most excited about the prospect of getting a girl WSS puppy for my sister, myself (and my MoM & Dad). I think I have a nice home for a puppy. I also have a big yard for her to run around in. I know alot about animal healh and the main deseases that their breeds get. I have always wanted to be an Emergency Vet. I have watched many operations on the show 'Emergency Vets'. I would like to know how to get a puppy from you (since I know you take good care of all of your puppies). Have a happy New Year, and try to E-mail me back to tell me when your next litter is to be born. When the litter is born, PLEASE tell me if there are any girls open.

My whole family was born in South wales near and about Newport, Cardiff, Abergavenny and Swansea. We have mostly all emigrated to the USA after the end of WWII..relucantly but miss the homeland and have just fount all this new info on Welshies. We have both had English Springers, Pointers, Golden Retrievers and Brittanies in our lives. My husband even had an English Cocker as a young that that he hunded with as a teen-ager. Our most recent dog died at age 14 from natural causes and was an English Springer Spaniel who definitely came from a champion stock of hunting bred dogs. We we are to see both parents and all the puppies and they were amazing. Now we are both a little older and have grandchildren but would love a puppy that comes at least in theory if not fact from my homeland that would be kept inside as a family pet, watchdog when husband traveling and of course hunted in the autumn as much as possible. We are tryin to research out good hunting breeders with hopes of getting a dog by spring...we have fallin in love all over again and would love to add a new Welshie to our home as soon as possible. My husband is 60 and me 55yr. so the fact that they are a wee bit slower than the English is a blessing in disuise - and a little less groom for a field dog. Any suggestions or advise would be welcome you can e-mail me at lesleyhanson[censored] My husband is a tour operator and puts ski, trekking and hiking trips to Europe and south america. He has even done a great shootingtrip to South America a few years back. Hello from Morgan, my 3 year old Welsh springer. We live in the UK and it is partly thanks to this site that I ended up with another Welsh springer. Having said I should be sensible and not get another dog after Merlin, my first welshie died, my sister showed me this site with the puppycam and off I went again!! So here we are with Morgan, the most handsome lad in town (well, I think the world, actually but I expect there's some of you out there who would disagree!). Morgan loves life - nicknamed "wagalot" from about 3 weeks of age! - and everyone and everything in it. He is excelling at agility (just started competing) and has just returned from a very wet, muddy walk by the river and is curled up by my side as I write this. Thanks for a lovely site - I enjoy going gooey over all the puppy photos!

I have been looking for a Welshie for a few weeks. I have been researching breeds for the last 2 months and I came across a book called "Paws to Consider." After reading the book and looking at the different kinds of dogs, I found myself returning to the Welshie pages 120-121. I fell in love with the description and the character traits of this beautiful dog. I soon had my husband reading about the breed and looking at every thing I found about Welshies including the article in Dog Fancy. We are filling out an information form to send in because we would love to have a Welshie as a member of our home.

When my wife had a heart attack we said we wouldn't have another dog but we sore a breed of dog on holiday and asked what it was and we were told it was a welsh springer, we had to have one and we did, and it's the most braineyest dog I have ever had. We would love another if anything ever happend to Jasper, not for a long time yet we hope.

I have had 2 sister welsh springer spaniels for 6 years now. They are the most wonderful dogs in the whole world. They are opposite in personality but very sweet and loving. They are great companions. They love me very much and we look forward to seeing each other every day. I never go anywhere because I won't leave them behind. I highly recommend them as companion pets.

Hei!! I was surfing on the internet trying to find out what american springers look like. They're little different than what we have in europe. Your dogs don't have spots in their fur and in skandinavia and part of other europe gutting dogs tail is not allowed. Well there are some other differences too. =) I have 2 englishspringers and my parents have an welsh. It was lovely to visit your site. By the way your last name sounds finnish it means "free" in our language. -Suvi-

My name is Edmund Marco and it's a pleasure to sign your guest book. I work for an advertising agency in London. Our agency represents direct marketing companies that are involved in the marketing of products as seen on TV in England. Most of the infomercial products come from the U.S. but then again we export our talents as well. My brother has appeared in infomercials in the U.S. advertising various products. I think it's hilarious that English people respond so well to American products while Americans tend to respond well to sales people who have an English accent!

I grew up with one English Springer and then another, both named 'Brindy. It has been years now of apartment living and cat ownership. I took another look in my dog book this afternoon and am becoming smitten with the idea of a welshie... wow, what an interesting look, less prettified than most English types. Also possibly not as 'overly affectionate'. I know well how Brindy would break your heart everytime you ceased petting her, like she would never be pet again! I would own her all over again, of course, but a personality that wasn't so over the top might be a blessing! Thank you for your site!

I have bred English Springer Spaniels thus I am very fond of the breed. I came across a Welsh Springer some years ago in the field and found her to be a match for my Missy, who was the best hunter I have ever had! I have had Springers that are loaded with engery and some that were smarter than me! After reading the traits of the Welsh Springer, especially the calmer, gentler attitude it perk my interest. I have recently moved from a ranch to town and have a small house with a fenced yard. My wife and I are interested in finding a new family member that can hunt with me during the day and snuggle by my wife at night! Any suggestion on were I can find a friend that fits that description? Jeff Mauceri

Your dogs are beautiful. My first experience at meeting a welch was much like yours. I fell in love with that sweet dog that unfortunately belonged to someone else, and I knew that someday I had to have one. I have studied up on the breed and feel confident that it is just the dog for me. However, I have held off on getting one in hopes that one day soon, I could have a country environment for it to live in. It would sure be great to have a dog from one of your litters!

We live in Bothell,WA, suburb of Seattle. We are looking for a breeder of the Welsh Springer in the area. I have been looking at the Welshie for some time. We had an English Springer, but had to put her down 17months ago. She was fearful and aggressive. We were working with our vet trying to help her. She was on medication but only got worse, until she turned on me and attacked our then 11 month old grandson. We had made the decision with our vet before this happened that should she get to that point putting her down was the only thing to do. It still was a difficult thing to do. Only in the last couple of months have I felt I really wanted to ad anotherdog to our family. I went back to the Internet to do more research and feel a Welsh Springer is what we are looking for. Thanks so much for you site. Linda

My husband George & I enjoy watching the development of this litter - the most difficult thing for him is that we have just moved and our home computer won't be "connected" again until this coming weekend. However, I still get to check them out from work! Regarding the previous writer describing their dogs - we think the ticking is a part of the Welshie's charm!

Hello, I am very Happy with my silly boy JoJo. He is so much fun to show and to play with and he is currently working with my 11 yr. old in Jr's. I sent you a questionarre and I hope to hear from you. JoJo's father is a english import and Jim is gourgous no ticking at all and JoJo has very little. His mother is finished and from the killogay line and it is a beautiful line to go with the import line. Thdy meshed together like one. I really hope that everyone that owns a welsh is as tickled as I am with Diamond Marquis at Berghause. a.k.a. JoJo

I am very interested in the Welsh Springer Spaniel. Your excellent, informative web site has helped to convinced me that the Welsh Springer may be the perfect dog for our family. I began to search for a dog close to my home in British Columbia Canada. Immagine my surprise when I found a one of your dogs Saga's O'Mega Expectations. I am currentyl on the waiting list and hope to hear that we have a puppy soon.

This is a great web site! The puppy cam is original and fun to watch. We are getting a Welsh Springer from another breeder in October and our daughter has been watching your puppies grow as they are about the same age as the one she will be getting. I appreciate the helpful information on grooming and equipment, and enjoyed the article on the Welsh and Springer Spaniels. I had seen the panty hose article reprinted in Anne Walton's "Welsh Springer Spaniel" book and found it an amusing idea.

I have been waiting to get a Welsh Springer for two years. I have a Brittany/Springer who is a wonderful dog, but she likes to have a companion. I took care of a sick friend's dog for five years, and she was a Springer with an unpredictible disposition. I couldn't have another dog with her around. She has gone back to her owner now, and Holly and I are looking for a Welshie. We live in Port St. Lucie Florida. All of my dogs have been rescues. Holly was a rescue, but I really want a Welshie, so this time we might just have to buy the dog we want. I have a fenced yard with dog doors to it. I work out of my home. I have worked for Vets in the past, and am a good pet owner. If you can give me any information about finding a Welshie, puppy or adult female for Holly, I would appreciate it.

Our beloved Welshie, "Sophie" is 11 years old. Albeit a little slower, she still acts like a puppy. Has anyone had experience with Welshie's severing the ACL ligament in their knees. Our Sophie severed the ACL in each of her knees within 14 months of each other. She recovered nicely from each surgery (although it is almost impossible to keep a Welshie confined to a crate for even a short period of time!).

I have owned a Welsh Springer Spaniel for 1 year now. We got him from a Rescue Centre and love him to bits! He is very lively and was quite destructive when we got him. We didn't know anything of his background but after a visit to the vets when we first got him we were told that he was approx. 1 year old. He has now settled down quite a bit although he has no end of energy. He is such a loving dog but definitely not for anyone who is not able to give him plenty of exercise. I love your Website.

Thanks so much for a great site. I have always owned Cocker Spaniels and last year our 17 year old Montgomery passed away. My son brought home this little bundle of joy and we were aware that he was a Springer Spaniel but not exactly what type. Your web site confirms that he is definitely a Welshie. Found your site while searching for info on Weslh Springer's and breeders. I had a Eng. Springer (liver/wht) for 13 years and she just passed away in her sleep. She was the best, calm, obediant, a true pleasure. But I had seen a Welsh at Westminster 10 years ago and always kept my eye out. If I am ready I plan to get another dog this summer and I am leaning towards the Welsh as she would still be a lovable springer, but a different dog than my Eng. Springer 'Banjo' that I truely love and miss. Still looking for a breeder. Thanks for your site, it is very informative and I love the pictures.

We accquired a black/white English Springer Spaniel puppy in the early fall of 1999 and named him Simon. He quickly made his way into our hearts and is exuberantly loving and loyal! Also, somewhat of a clown and prankster. I was looking for information on ear cleaning techniques of English Springer Spaniels and found your website. It was more informative than all the others that I found and during my visit I also fell in love with the Welshies! Thank you so much for the time and effort you put into your site. He is a very easy going dog, protective of my children and was so easy to crate train. We started crate training from the first day, and he adapted very well. Our Welsh Springer, Cinnamon, is now 14 1/2 years old...she has been the most wonderful dog and is such a vital part of our family...she is definitely showing her age but is still the attentive lovable dog that she has always been. I know, unfortunately that she can't last much longer...she has arthritis and, at times, really has difficulty getting up. She has been on medication for several years so I feel that she has out lived her normal life span. Because she has been such a wonderful pet, I hope to find another one just like her when the time comes. I highly recommend this breed to anyone looking for an easy going friendly pet...plus they are beautiful dogs...wherever I take Cinnamon, even at her age, people always tell me how pretty she is and always want to know what kind of dog she is.

Hi there from a former and future (I hope) Welshie owner and lover: I obtained one of "Abbie's" daughters' in 1977 and one of "Walter's" sons in '78 and another daughter in 81. Charlotte Little had a few of my babies (bless her memory) as did Bill Yates. Being military and moving about didn't help much and so we never had a chance to get going. Now that I'm settled in one place and have a farm, I miss having a Welshie with me. My sweetheart "Candy" died in 88 of kidney failure and I've been lonely ever since. Please E me if you will have any young show pups to be placed for sale or if you know anyone still breeding from "Walter's" line that might have a baby to spare. Thanks.

This is my first time on the web. I just came across your home page. I thought that Desi and I would just say hi to all the Welshies and Welshie lovers out there. I live with my mother whose is eighty some years old, and not having the best of times lately. Over the past eight years I lost an aunt in September, a brother-in-law in October, another aunt in November, and my father in December. Through all this Desi (who is almost nine) has been like a rock for my mother. If anyone can get her to laugh, it's him. She has told me out of all the dogs we have had, he is the one she has enjoyed the most. So all I have to say ,is, Welshies are worth their weight in gold.

I loved your site! I have visited twice now in the search for a replacement for our beloved Cocker we had to put to sleep recently. Having narrowed the search to Welsh Springers, Brittanys (which I grew up with) and another Cocker, we have decided on the Welsh, largely because your web site portrays them as such loveable adorable family dogs. Thanks for such a wonderful site packed with information!

Our first dog, a red Cocker Spaniel, died 18 years ago and only after my wife stopped working August last the time was right to look for a companion we missed over the years and got in touch with a breeder. Since three weeks we are the proud owners of a Welsh Springer Spaniel and we love the dog.

Great web site! All the information and pictures convinced me more than ever that a Welshie would be the special addition to our family that we are looking for. We appreciate all your help in that regard as we learn as much as we can and look for the right puppy. It is especially nice to see that you have such current information. Thanks again. And most of all, thanks for giving your puppies such a loving home and nurturing start to their lives. They are so adorable!

We have had Casey, our WSS for 11 years. He has been a wonderful pet. He has experienced us as newly weds, as new parents (twice), and has adapted well to three moves across the country. What a great breed! As he gets older it is nice to see your puppy pictures - it's been along time since he looked like that. Keep up the good work.

Hi Gary and Sandi - your site is constantly improving- as ever. WELL DONE !. What a shame though that you have had to censor email address's I have been checking by your site for a couple of years now and had found peoples email address's very useful. I suppose you have suffered from abuse of your system - what a shame. And I see that Jack Bowen has visited !!! Amazing -I didn't know that the Whirled Wired Webb had reached that part of the country. Last week I was in the Netherlands at a Clay shooting competition and met a working Welsh, his name translated to 'Freckles' I think he was xyrs old, the owner told me that his parents were both British imports, but he didn't know or care much about the kennel name - he was only concerned that ' Flute ' ( Freckles ) was a happy, healthy, companion and an excelent working dog. Now that is what Welshies are all about as far as I am concerned. We were at Dorhout Mees about xxk from Hilversum and the owner said he lived about xk away. He was a lovely little dog, very happy and true to type - the owner was a really nice man. Any of you Dutch Welshie owners out there know the dog or owner ?? If you bred that dog you should be proud, not only in your puppy, but also in your selection of owner.

Hi there from New Zealand - where spring is here, (lambs/daffodils) but winter has only just arrived, (snow/southerly very cold winds) Your puppy cam is interesting, but sometimes hard to make out the picture - my computer or yours? You might want to re-think your censoring program Gary, it's taking out legitimate numbers like how many weeks til puppy arrives! and how old a dog is. Seeing those cute puppies really makes me want one, shame I live so far away! Bye now,

Hi there, I felt that I just had to write to you. Since we got our welshie, Thomas, the whole family have been fans. Unfortnatelly Thomas died in June, because of heart problems and when it came to deciding what we wanted next, we couldn't bring ourselves to choose anything but a Welsh Springer. We found a litter about an hour and a half drive away and because of the distance haven't been able to visit too often. This is where you come in. Chloe's litter was born only a day before our one and I have been able to keep up to date with how "our" ones have been growing through the web-cam :)  We are now expecting the patter of tiny paws in just x weeks time and look forward to welcoming "Reuben Aloysius Laufer" into our home.

This is my first time surfing the net and I thought I'd look for my favourite breed! Your dogs are absolutely beautiful and you obviously adore them which is just as it should be! We own a young bitch puppy called Pauletaire Crystal Charm (Seren to her friends) who has just begun her show career, and although she is very naughty in the ring (and noisy at home!) we love her just the same!! Perhaps you could put a bit in your page about how the showing system works in America and what OFA gradings are, as we don't have these in England.

Lovely pictures of the puppies - made me feel quite broody (on behalf of my bitch, Bethan!). Unfortunately, at 20 months she has still not had a season, 'though she is very immature-looking and thin, being very active and not terribly interested in food, but otherwise healthy. Has anyone else had a bitch that has been very late with her first season, but who has then gone on to prove to be normally fertile? In answer to Paul's query re coat quality, Bethan also looked like this at about the same age. I was told it was a sign of a good coat to come and she does indeed now have a lovely coat though finer than I'm used to in Welshies.

For the last two months the coat on the upper arm , upper thigh and skull of our ten month old Welsh, Hannah, has developed a fine, faded dust-like appearance. The vet could find nothing wrong and thinks it may just be her adult hair growing out. Has anyone else experienced this? She is not perturbed at all by this and seems as healthy as can be.

Hi to David Fowler, from Hamilton, no, you're not the first New Zealander to sign here, I've been keeping and eye onthis site for a long time,Welcome to the world of welshie's on the web. There's more out there on them than you might think!P.s. Who bred your Welshie, I can't recall the name of anyone in Hamilton who breeds them?

I am always impressed to find someone that loves the breed as much as Darlene and I do. But to find that the second significant passion is wood carving is pushing coincidence to excess. I have just started the carving thing but already planning to carve a likeness or our Ch. Kris's Rumor is of D'car. And what a rush to have "Smuts" picture on the cover of the TFH publication of Welsh Spaniel. Thank for the wonder site.

Hi. I,m looking for a WSS breeder who breeds for hunting ability, not for show. This seems to be a hard thing to come by, since I,ve been this route before and settled on a ESS because every breeder I talked to at that time in my area seemed more involved in the show aspect than the dog,s prowess in the woods. If there are any breeders in the NE who still breeds the Welsch for what it was meant to do, please contact me. Thanks.

Decided on this breed after browsing an encyclopedea on dogs. Amazingly found the nearest breeder was 5 minutes away. Now we are the delighted "father" and "mother" of "Cesky", a 12 week old bundle of energy and beauty. are we the first Kiwis to sign on?

What a surprise! A web page for Welshies. There are only a few of us in Australia - Welshies are almost rare here. I notice that one of your previous correspondents said it was hard to go on holidays with a dog that wants to be with you all the time. Our Bonnie even follows us into the toilet! (Perhaps we should have called her SHADOW). A lovely, friendly dog, she even has patience for two cats.

Hello from darkest Gloucestershire. We have two beautiful Welshies, Molly and Tess, who are mother and daughter. We loved breeding from Molly and as soon as she is older we will have a litter from Tess. We have just moved to a little farmhouse in the middle of nowhere and the dogs think it is heaven. They are the lovliest dogs in the world and my very best friends. I expect all Welshie owners feel this way. Lovely to find your page and facinating to read comments from all over the world. Keep up the good work!

Our 12 mth old is called Taffy and we love him. We bet you haven't heard from Oz (Australia) before. Welshies are not that easy to get over here but we were looking in Sydney at the right time. How do you go on holidays with a dog that wants to be with you all the time?

Saga's Sincerely Yours, aka Andy, says hi! He is absolutely the greatest guy. In the 4 1/2 years we've had him he's brought us more joy than we ever imagined. Best described as the consummate clown with a zest for life he's affectionate, well behaved and an absolute doll. I hope you'll stop by our home page and meet him as an adult. I can assure you, our next Welshie will be another "Saga". (PS-I've also linked to your home page. It's the best of the breed as far as I'm concerned.)
